BRAD STEIGER - March 5 Guest

UncannyRadio is not just honored but thrilled out of our gourd to feature the premiere author on all things uncanny, Brad Steiger, as our inaugural guest on March 5. We will be talking about one of his eeriest books, SHADOW WORLD: True Encounters with Beings from the Darkside

Who inhabits the Shadow World? We're not just talking about spirits of the dead. And "friendly" is not a proper description of their character.

Having conducted research through five decades and across four continents, investigator Brad Steiger concludes that a richly populated Shadow World exists all around us. When it impinges on our ordinary plane of shared reality, this dark dimension is sometimes frightening, occasionally menacing, but always worthy of cautious exploration. Spirits of the dead are but one of the many types of beings that inhabit in the Shadow World. Others appear to be multidimensional beings, some of whom may be benign, while others seem to be cosmic tricksters or troublemakers bent on mischief. And unfortunately some of the beings that seem to have our best interests at heart may in fact have entered our world with the intention of possessing our bodies or capturing our souls.

Brad Steiger is the author of more than 160 books with over fifteen million copies in print. He is a frequent guest on a variety of television and radio programs.

The Curse of Schneck?

Careful listeners may have noticed a repeat of Uncanny Radio on the air last week. No, it wasn't snow (this time), nor were Linda and I carried off into the Unknown.  It was, in fact, what I've come to think of as the "Schneck Curse."  Twice we've had things go mysteriously wrong with shows featuring our guest Robert Damon Schneck.  First, the engineers managed to "lose" an entire show.  Poof!  Gone into the ether!  Then, last week, they managed to mysteriously not load the correct show into our programming block.  Why has this happened?  Perhaps it's because in both shows Robert and your humble hosts spoke of the "thing that must not be named" -- a character from Robert's book, The President's Vampire, who (legend says) will hunt you down if you so much as think of him.  Perhaps some things were not meant to be heard!  Tune in on Robert's newly scheduled air date, March 12, to see if we can overcome this strange new obstacle!

Gary Gygax RIP

The creator of Dungeons & Dragons, my friend, Gary Gygax died today.  You can read a longer piece about him on my personal blog.

I'm sorry that I won't get to interview him on the show, which I'd hoped to arrange in the coming weeks.  Mostly, though, my condolences go out to his family (who are all great people), and to the other folks who knew him.  He was a great guy.  Our thoughts are with those who loved him.

ROBERT DAMON SCHNECK - February 27 Guest

Robert Damon Schneck, America¹s Historian of the Strange, is the author of The President¹s Vampire, Strange-but-True Tales of the United States of America Anomalist Books 2005, Barnes & Noble 2007) as well as several books for young readers including Detective Notebook: Are You Psychic? He is freelance writer who contributes to Fate the Fortean Times and other magazines. Robert has carried out parapsychology experiments, participated in ghost hunts and visited odd places in search of stories. He lives in Brooklyn, New York, in an apartment full of books and silverfish eating the books. Friends describe him as a loveable, nocturnal, monomaniac.

On Uncanny Radio, enjoy a smattering of Robert's best stories, including one about a poltergeist that converted to Catholicism, Pedro the Mummified Tiny Person, an electric machine intended to be God, a US president's connection to a vampire...and perhaps Bram Stoker, and a Wisconsin tale so creepy it defies description.

The God Machine: "October 1853, on a hilltop in Lynn, Massachusetts, a group assembled to create the New Messiah. They had not come to pray or to praise God: they were actually going to build Him out of metal and wood under the supervision of spirits." - Robert Damon Schneck
